Youth Health Navigator!
Job Summary:
We are seeking to hire and train youth who live, work or play in St. Jamestown to be Youth Health Navigators for an 8-week period this fall. In this position you will learn about mental health and work on breaking down the stigma that relates to mental health. You will share information with your community by taking photos, making videos, blogging and in a variety of other ways. Through this position, you will also learn how to help others navigate the Canadian healthcare and health-promotion systems.
Salary: $10.25 per hour. Hours: 8 hours per week (4 hours on Saturdays, 4 hours on weeknights plus two mandatory half-days of training over the weekend at the start of the project)

Youth Voices Research Group (YVRG) is a research unit based at the Dalla Lana School of Public Health at the University of Toronto. Qualifications:
• An ability to work with people of different ages;
• Some knowledge of, or experience with, mental health promotion and/or the mental health system;
• A willingness to speak to others in order to promote mental health and reduce stigma;
• An interest in sharing personal stories and hearing those of others while maintaining confidentiality;
• Familiarity with basic computer skills and online social networking tools – such as Facebook or blogs
• Good organizational, time-management, and problem-solving skills
• Strong ability to write and speak English (Preference is given to those who also speak additional languages like: Mandarin, Tamil, Tagalog, Hindi, Somali, Vietnamese, Urdu, Korean or Russian);
• Have strong ties to St. Jamestown – this includes living, working and/or playing in the community (south of Bloor St., North of Carlton/Prospect St., West of Parliament St. and East of Sherbourne St.);
• Have strong ties to the “newcomer/immigrant/new Canadian” experience ;
• Have a strong desire to link those in need with relevant health resources;
• Be between the ages of 15 and 30;
• Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident or a person to whom refugee protection has been granted under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act;
• Legally entitled to work in Ontario
